“Why did I say that?”

Myself and 3 others were standing in a circle chatting. I had to open my mouth and attempt to make a humorous comment. My comic line bombed.

It was like a deflated basketball hitting the floor.

Worse, it was a put down line that offended several people in the group.

Double whammy. Not funny and was like stabbing two people with a broken arrow.

I wanted to disappear.

Does it happen to you? Do you suffer from foot in mouth disease?

Here is what has helped me:

Wait several seconds before you say something.

Count to three when the other person finishes. This gives us time to lasso and rope in some of these embarrassing comments before they escape.

Try it out and let me know what you think.
